This miniature book conceptually represents a scene from the movie, War of the Worlds (2005). I chose to use the lightning scene because it is beautiful in the way it builds anticipation and sets the mood for the rest of the movie.
During the scene, father and daughter are watching a strange storm occur. Lightning strikes throughout the scene, interrupting the dialogue. The father and daughter forget the issues holding them apart and look to each other for comfort in the face of the terrifying storm.
Reconstructing the scene in book form, I used a turkish map fold to represent the unexpected interruption of lightning. The typography and unusual layout is used to emulate the emotions and actions of each character.
